Futility of War
The soldier watched outside their bunker, staring out at the vast space of dead man’s walk. He sighed, annoyed. He and his friends had been stuck here for years. Nothing came through. Apparently, a new attempt would be made today. Some form of a super soldier would try and cross dead man’s walk. It was pointless.
He was the greatest man ever to be born and tested. He was faster then a car, more powerful then a lion. He had been given a shield even a sniper rifle couldn’t pierce! He could see bullets and follow their movements with incredible accuracy. A true superhero of the modern era.
The soldier could hear something approaching and knock on the bunker door and he went to answer it. A man standing, they are in a dark black outfit with some form of a riot shield came in.
“Ah are you the new guy?” The soldier asked calmly, his dead eyes watching the man. The man nodded calmly.
“Yes I am. I cam to try and convince you guys to come with me. Its about time to charge.”
“No thanks.” The soldier said simply, going back to staring out the bunker. “Going out there is suicide and I’m not dumb enough to try and cross.”
The man glared. “Oh come on now! You are a soldier! And if you go with me, you can be a hero!”
The soldier simply shook his head just walking back to the front of the bunker. “Nope. Even an army will be nothing. You should stay back with us. Its smarter to do so.”
The man in black growled. “I’m no coward! I will prove to you all its possible! Anything can be done if you believe yourself! Besides, I was made for this!” He said and left the bunker. The soldier sighed and watched this man walk out. The man took out an odd shield and began to advance through the dead man’s walk, and soon bullets started to fire. The bullets bounced of the shield, progress slowly made…until a mortar came and blew the man up.
The soldier sighed and lit a cigarette annoyed. “And that’s why you don’t play the hero.” He muttered. He then paused blinking. “Oh…I didn’t even learn his name.”
